New bills have been submitted for legislative action. Chapter 2 has representatives on the State Government Affairs Committee that reviews all bills that may pertain to children's health issues. We advocate as a State through District IX.

 Fit to Play & Learn launched in LAUSD! AAP-CA2 is partnering with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) School Nurses Act to Prevent Obesity (SNAPO) to champion a childhood obesity prevention program, Fit to Play & Learn. The brand new program will teach low-income 4th and 5th graders and their parents ways to integrate healthy food, healthy drinks choices, and physical activities into their daily lives. We are currently taking donations to fund this program. Thank you for your support!

We have multiple opportunities for you to get involved noted in this month's newsletter. Speaking in public is known to be the thing people dread the most. Learn the basics of Media Training on March 30, 2012. This training is sponsored by LA-HPAC , and is conducted by professional media consultants. You might even get 'lucky' enough to be on video-tape. Then put those new skills to work by attending the Annual Legislative Day in Sacramento on April 17, 2012. Learn advocacy skills and then go with teams of other physicians to speak with California's legislators on the topic we all love the most-Doing the Right thing for Children! Registration is FREE for Chapter members.
Finally, our annual 'Advances in Pediatrics' conference in Las Vegas. We are staying at the Paris Hotel and Casino and have excellent speakers lined up for your education. Come and join us!

AAP-CA is holding our Annual Legislative Day in Sacramento in conjunction with the California Medical Association Legislative Day on April 17, 2012 at the Sacramento Convention Center.
The AAP-CA Advocacy Day is made possible by your AAP California Chapter dues-- complimentary continental breakfast and full lunch, no registration fee for AAP-CA Chapter members (Chapters 1,2,3 and 4) and pediatric residents.
We will meet at 8:00am for an AAP-CA advocacy training and briefing, focused on bills and budget issues that matter most to California children and pediatricians. There will be an opportunity during that time to sign up for afternoon meetings with legislators and other policymakers. The rest of the morning and lunchtime will be spent jointly with CMA to hear their great line-up of speakers and insider insights on politics and policy. We will head to the Capitol from 1-6pm for meetings with legislators and staff to advocate for children and the viability of pediatric practices.
Please join us! This is a wonderful opportunity to engage actively in advocacy with colleagues and AAP-CA officers and staff in order to make a real difference for your patients and your practice.

Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Divisions of Pediatric Surgery are sponsoring a one-day educational session for general pediatricians, family practitioners, nurses and mid-level providers.
This conference is intended to provide the latest information on common pediatric issues that often require surgical interventions. Know how to recognize signs and symptoms and know when to refer. Come meet the experts and learn about recent innovations in pediatric surgical interventions.
