Chapter 2 is in its third year of a quality improvement program with UCLA, First5 Los Angeles, and Cincinnati Childrens Center for Health Care Quality called the Early Developmental Screening and Intervention (EDSI) collaborative. To date, over 30 practices within the chapter have been involved and this year’s collaborative actually spread to three other counties within chapter boundaries and across chapter lines to also include practices from Chapter 4.
About EDSI
EDSI is a quality improvement model designed to enhance developmental screening and referrals for at-risk children in our Chapter area. Through interactive group learning sessions, monthly team phone calls/webinars and ongoing data collection, participating physicians are given the knowledge, tools and resources necessary to implement changes within their practices to improve screenings and referrals. Together, we have developed a quality improvement project around early developmental screening that teaches physicians the quality improvement model and gives them the tools and resources to screen and refer at-risk children and families for needed intervention. The model includes group learning sessions, monthly team phone calls/webinars, and ongoing data collection. It has been approved by the American Board of Pediatrics as satisfying Part IV of MOC requirements.

Future QI Projects
The Chapter 2 Quality Improvement Committee is now using this program as a model for future MOC/QI projects. There is much expertise within the chapter in both disease management for conditions such as asthma, and QI. As demand grows for programs to meet the requirements of MOC, the chapter wants to be a resource for its members.
